An elevated online home for a Glasgow destination

Silverburn needed a digital experience to match their new brand. Lane reimagined the platform from the ground up for guests and their internal team.

Insight

Silverburn offers a wide range of shopping, food and entertainment to the people of Glasgow and beyond. As part of our rebrand to elevate the destination’s presence and appeal, Lane were given an additional project to redesign their website.

The previous site no longer reflected the brand and its ambitions. It had become tired and did not offer the team the functionalities they desired. One of the key asks on their website shopping list was an introduction of interactive map functionality so that users could click on retailers and locate them with ease.

Our main focus was ensuring the new site could be easily onboarded to the internal team so that they could update information such as events, what’s on and offers themselves without any hassle.

Idea

First up, wireframes on desktop and mobile, presenting the client with interactive prototypes so that they could get a feel for how the site navigation would work.

We then presented two website concepts built on Silverburn’s freshly updated brand – applying the new colour palette while being mindful of functionality and accessibility needs. The new fonts also ensured readability. The chosen concept introduced curves between sections that allowed pages to be both visually pleasing and practical as the team could easily add in new blocks. They also had the ability to select colour combinations and pattern overlays on the homepage so that they could easily update imagery and film.
The new star of the site, an interactive map tool, comes in handy for guests and allows Silverburn’s internal team to update the map themselves and add it to the site.

We also completed internal checks on SEO best practice on wireframes and the high-fidelity stages of design, and introduced a vector-based tool that allows users to zoom in without encountering pixelation.

Impact

The new site was more modern and elevated to reflect Silverburn’s future ambitions. And just as importantly, we brought greater ease to everyone – from the general public in the front end to a smoother back-end system for the internal team.

The new functionalities have been well received with additional benefits such as the automatic disappearance of out of date events.
