An Artistic Adventure

Bringing together a diverse team of stakeholders, they appointed us to create a train wrap which brought to life the Edinburgh to the Borders journey at what is undoubtedly Scotland’s most exciting rail project in over a century. The Borders Railway is open to the public in just six months, and today Infrastructure Secretary Keith Brown revealed the 70 metre long train wrapped in our specially-designed livery to promote some of the top attractions of those areas served by the new railway.
The livery has been designed to catch the eyes (and imaginations) of train-loving kids and rail enthusiasts as the three-carriage Class 170 travels between Scotland’s seven cities and it features illustrations of Edinburgh Zoo’s beloved pandas, Midlothian’s famous and historic Rosslyn Chapel and the Scottish Borders’ world-class scenery.
John Donnelly, Chief executive of Marketing Edinburgh said: “Designed by Edinburgh-based artist, Will Beeslar, the stunning new livery is the most complex train wrap ever created in the UK. Working closely with The Lane Agency, Marketing Edinburgh was delighted to project manage the full creative development process on behalf of its joint funders, Scottish Borders Council, Midlothian Council and City of Edinburgh Council. The final result speaks for itself, with the train wrap livery perfectly capturing the most iconic and memorable attractions of all three regions.”
They say that ‘a camel is a horse designed by committee’ but on this occasion, a very large group united to create an outstanding result. Decisions were made insightfully and quickly to deliver a special project. Our special thanks go to Paul Wakefield of Marketing Edinburgh and Theresa Gault of Scotrail who have been utterly fabulous ‘rocks’ keeping the whole project ‘on the right track’! You’ve gotta have a pun in there somewhere!
