The 10 Commandments of The Lane
Ali Findlay • 30th Aug 2018
1. Thou shalt understand that your colleagues may steal your food on occasion with no retribution.
Late night pitch work, appeasing ‘hangry’ studio staff… there are many more reasons that your food might go missing here at The Lane, just don’t take it personally. You’ll get it back in some way, normally via the copious caking that goes on at The Lane, there’s always a cake in the kitchen.
We’re celebrating 10 years of The Lane today!

2. Thou shalt be happy to make a fool of yourself.
Be it on the dancefloor at the end of the night or selling in one of our wilder creative concepts to a client – we don’t like to take ourselves too seriously here. It gets in the way of how much we all enjoy what we do.

3. Thou shalt laugh at least once a day.
See above. Working hard means playing hard and sharing a good laugh is all part of the job here. Luckily we’ve got more than our fair share of self-confessed ‘banter merchants’ that are always there to keep office morale up.
4. Thou shalt love animals.
If you don’t – you will. Meeting our resident guard dog Buckie is a good start. Other visitors include Cooper, and our clients’ dogs.
5. Thou shalt be a relationship maker not breaker.
Everyone gets stressed at some time or another. The test of a true Laner is being able to keep a cool head, do what needs to be done and keep those all important relationships with clients and the people around you happy and healthy.
6. Thou shalt not take thy client’s name in vain.
…or don’t take the important people for granted in other words. We pride ourselves on the great relationships we’ve got with the lovely people we work with and always will. One of our most important commandments, this.
7. Thou shalt be an eternal optimist.
Tough times only make optimists tougher! The harder you can bounce back from whatever this crazy industry throws at you the further you’ll go. Tough times don’t last, tough people do. When all’s said and done, it’s a job not a life and death situation. So stay positive! What’s the worst that can happen?
8. Thou shalt always be supportive.
As we mentioned, it’s a family affair here at The Lane so when someone’s taking a stroll through the ‘shadow of the valley of death’ (or possibly something slightly less dramatic) we like to keep an eye out for them. After all, when you spend 40+ hours a week with your colleagues, you really have to be there for them.
9. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s ass.
OK, so we borrowed one from the original ten commandments. We try not to dip our pens in the agency ink. Instant HR issue in our house.
10. Thou shalt honour the orange!
Eagle-eyed readers might have noticed the colour is a bit of theme with us, for no other reason than it’s bright, warm and energetic – a bit like the #Laners…
